I am Danielle, currently a third-year in the College studying neuroscience and comparative human development. As the president of the South Side Free Music Program for the 2018-2019 school year, I am excited to expand the organization to include more fun opportunities for our students. Since I started learning the cello in the second grade, music has been an integral part of my life. I wish to make music education as accessible as possible through SSFMP.

Vice President

Music has always been an important aspect of my life that I’ve taken for granted. I started taking piano lessons at the age of four and later picked up the flute when I was nine years old. Since then, I’ve been active in various bands and orchestras at the local and national levels. As a fourth year pre-med comparative human development major at the University of Chicago, I’m both grateful and excited to be given the opportunity to continue with music through SSFMP!

Community Outreach Chair

From strumming Las Mañanitas on my first guitar at age nine to jamming out Friday nights as first-chair saxophonist for my high school marching band, music has been a constant companion throughout my life. As a first-generation college student, I am grateful for the role music has played in opening doors to unimaginable academic opportunities. In addition to my pursuits in music, I study economics and human rights at the University of Chicago. I look forward to sharing my passion for music with others as part of the Southside Free Music Program leadership team.

Finance Chair

Hi! I'm a junior at the University of Chicago majoring in economics and minoring in philosophy. Ever since I began my training as a classical pianist in first grade, music has always been a huge part of my life and has altered my perspective, attitude, and opportunities in many positive ways. I joined SSFMP because I wish to share my knowledge and passion for music to others, and I have now been a part of the program for the past year. It has been a pleasure to see my students develop their musical abilities and interest, knowing that other students are as well. I look forward to working more as an instructor and serving as finance chair!

Events Chair

I am a third-year pre-medical student at the University of Chicago majoring in chemistry and math. Since learning to play guitar my freshman year of high school, music has become a central part of my life. I am very excited to share the same enthusiasm for music with others. I have taught with South Side Free Music Program for 1 year, and I cannot wait to continue teaching with the club and use my position as events chair to help give back to the South Side community!

Recruitment Chair

I had a love hate relationship with playing the piano for a long time, but after joining a chamber ensemble and a chorus, I realized music was something to be shared, a way to connect with others and have fun. At UChicago, I am still deciding on a course of study. In the same vein, I hope to help others explore the possibilities of music as part of the SSFMP board!

Communications Chair

I'm a rising senior majoring in economics and computer-science at the University. I've always loved music, starting piano lessons when I was 6. I currently play the piano, guitar and banjo (and formerly the cello). I'm interested in music, specifically jazz, swing, country, and hip-hop. I'm excited to work with the board and spread excitement for music with others!
